The rain had stopped when we arrived, and more parking space had been made available on a nearby field for all the newly arrived parents. My mother parked us next to another car with a family that was already unpacking.
As soon as we stepped out, my mother automatically fell in conversation with the parents next to us. Why do parents do that? Is it some kind of magnetic force that when you see another parent, you must immediately start a long boring conversation and make your kids stand around doing nothing?
The man she was talking to looked like a military officer judging from his... uniform and flattop haircut. The man's wife was standing next to him with two young girls clinging to her legs. None of these looked like college students, which of them were entering the school?
"Mark, get over here and lend this kind woman a hand," the father called out like issuing a command. Who was... Mark?
